Do, make, build and break – that’s what I wrote about yesterday and I’m not ready to give up on the subject yet, because it’s one near and dear to my heart, my head and my hands. I admire makers. I aspire to become a better one. Today’s project is helping people like me do just that.
By Hand is a publication for do-it-yourselfers – inventors, crafters, tinkerers, programmers, mechanics, mad scientists ,and even gardeners. They’re compiling a comprehensive resource for perpetual learners and serial doers. This doesn’t sound like the kind of magazine that’s destined to gather dust in the bathroom or quickly find its way to the recycle bin; you’ll want to keep these articles and tutorials on file for a the next rainy day that rolls around to provide you time to finally open up that arduino you’ve been wondering what to do with. (I feel your pain.)
By Hand is a lifestyle magazine for people who make, with departments for cooking, crafting, DIY, gardening, and do-gooding. Each issue will feature photo-intensive tutorials and recipes from pros and profiles of people who make their living with their hands.
We’re tired of buying magazines that only feature one recipe you would actually cook, one pattern you actually want to knit, so By Hand will be packed with just the good stuff!
Whether you’re a professional rogue engineer or a budding crafter gathering pine cones for a DIY centerpiece, By Hand will be a colorful tome of resource and inspiration to make the most of your imagination and guide your hands to give shape to your coolest ideas. They’ve got some serious talent on staff to lend worldly wisdom and words of advice and caution to handymen and women everywhere. A tool to grow a community a growers; to build a population of builders; to give a hand to the handy – some of the most important people the world has, and thus a group of people I think deserve all the support we can give them.
The revolution may be grown, knit, built, welded, molded, coded, hacked, soldered or sewn, but with your help, it can be written, photographed and printed too. Help make that (and many other things) happen by backing By Hand before March 23.
