Day 21: Sowing Stories

I’m kind of a sucker for documentaries.  A good documentary, to me, is everything that reality TV should be, but usually isn’t: a compelling story, or group of stories, of real-life.  There are some stories that, when told, change the way we think about things.  They can open our eyes (if we’re willing).  Documentaries, as opposed to most other film genres, are meant to make us think.

SOURLANDS is a collection of stories from a region between Philadelphia and New York that’s breaking new ground in sustainable living.

This is the story of a threatened forest…
A builder who became an artist…
Some scrappy organic farmers…
One man’s quest to lower his energy bill…
A young entrepreneur…
And the fight for sustainability on Earth.

Some bright ideas – new and very old-fashioned – are blooming in the Sourlands, and telling these stories might encourage like-minded watchers, and will at least bring attention to their growth.  Who knows what SOURLANDS will inspire?  We’ll definitely have something to talk about, and that’s really what makes for a great film.

The SOURLANDS producers have until Feb. 2 to reach their goal of $9,500, and they’re almost halfway there.  Support them by pre-ordering a copy of the DVD or get yourself listed in the credits, and be sure to let me know what you thought of it.
